I came to the rehearsal business after many experiences with facilities elsewhere in Manhattan. I wanted to create a space that offered the 5 Cs:
- Cost-effectiveness
- Cleanliness
- Convenience
- Comfort
- Courtesy
Combining all 5 features hasn't been easy and has made growth difficult, but I've persevered and now offer 7 studios, all at the original location of 347 W. 36th St. As of December 2006, the facility occupies the whole 13th floor.
The 5 Cs are like motherhood and apple pie: everyone believes in them, but they're subjective. So you won't necessarily agree that I've met my goals until you've seen the studios, checked out the prices, and perhaps worked here a couple of times.
But there are some physical things I can tell you about the facility before you come over and kick the tires:
- All studios have wonderful natural light. The windows are roughly 7 feet high and wrap all the way around the building.
- All studios have indirect quartz-halogen work lights, far superior to fluorescent lights. And the lights are on heavy-duty dimmers.
- All studios are soundproofed. Over the years I've developed a "secret sauce" that goes into the walls before the final coat of paint. It makes a big difference!
- There is an attendant on duty at all times.
- There is separate storage for props, sound equipment, and so forth. Long-term clients can lock up their stuff.
- The chairs are mostly carefully chosen steel-weave bistro chairs. Very comfy!
- There is a range of sizes and prices, from as low as $10 per hour (off-peak, for a small studio). "A price for every purse!"
- There are no dance floors. The floors are painted concrete. If your show requires high-impact dance, please check out the competition.
Most of these features make Where Eagles Dare a highly competitive rehearsal space.
Combined with a Midtown location near Penn Station and Times Square, Where Eagles Dare is hard to beat.
