A number of books have come out extolling
the birth of Off-Off-Broadway, which is pretty much synonymous with the Caffe
Cino. It became my hope to have a Cino + 40 theatre festival at my theatre,
Where Eagles Dare, and I was willing to make that theatre (and my studio
theatre) available for no upfront rental if “someone” could -- and would --
organize the playwrights, and find the producers, to make such an event happen.
Alas, the idea fell upon unfertile ground. I’m still willing, should the right
co-producer (or artistic director) come along. Meanwhile, this page contains
links to any- and everything devoted to the birth of Off-Off-Broadway; i.e., anything
theatrical that happened in Manhattan outside the orbit of Broadway or
Off-Broadway in a period roughly defined by the 60s.
